Health Insurance for Students

Many students do not think about health insurance when they are entering college. But having health insurance is important, especially if a person is going away to college and will live with other students. College campuses can carry many colds and other health risks that may require medication to cure. Unfortunately, those who live in dorms will be around those who are sick with the flu or stomach virus. If a person is very ill, they will have to visit a doctor.
Where to find student Health Insurance? Student health insurance can be purchased from the college a student is attending, from a private health care provider, or if a student is under the age of twenty-four, they may be able to be covered by their parent s health insurance policy. Having student health insurance will help students remain healthy so that they can study and pass their courses. Buying health insurance from the college that a student attends is a lot more affordable than taking out a private policy. Students will be able to have prescription coverage, hospital coverage, and more when they purchase policy from their college. Even though this health insurance will not cover all accidents and problems that a student may have concerning their health, they will have the basic coverage they need to keep themselves safe.
Buying an individual policy can be very expensive depending on prior medical issues, age, gender, and other factor. This should be a student s last resort. Taking out an individual policy may provide more coverage, but if a student is working full-time, they should just join their employer s group health plan if one is offered. This will help keep costs down and allow students to have health insurance while they are in school. Many times, a school issued policy will the least expensive way to have health insurance.
